Ronald Acuña Jr., the reigning National League (NL) MVP, is focusing on his recovery from an ACL tear as he aims to be ready for the 2025 season. After an extraordinary season last year, where he recorded 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases, Acuña now faces the challenge of maintaining his elite performance following two major knee surgeries.
A Patient Approach to Recovery
Speaking to the media, Acuña emphasized that he would take a patient approach and focus on contributing to his team through hitting and fielding. However, he admitted that stealing bases might not come as easily as before:
“I’m going to focus on my hitting and fielding and anything I can do to help the team win. As for stealing 40 or 50 bases, I’m not sure yet. I’ll have to see how it plays out.”
Recovering From a Historic Injury
The 2023 season saw Ronald Acuña Jr. achieve an unprecedented milestone, becoming the first player in MLB history to record 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases in a single season. This remarkable feat proved he had fully recovered from the ACL tear in his right knee in 2021. However, in May 2024, Acuña suffered a torn ACL in his left knee while running the bases during a game in Pittsburgh, ending his season prematurely.
Acuña stressed that he will prioritize listening to his body:
“If the team and doctors say I’m ready, but I feel something’s off, I’ll speak up immediately.”
Looking Ahead to Spring Training
When asked about his readiness for Spring Training, Acuña expressed optimism but remained cautious:
“If I feel good, everyone knows I’ll want to play and be out there. But ultimately, it depends on how I’m feeling at that time.”
Currently undergoing rehab in Los Angeles, Acuña reflected on his team’s performance despite the absence of key players, including himself.
Braves Thriving Despite Acuña’s Absence
Although injuries sidelined Acuña, he praised the Braves for maintaining their success:
“Injuries are part of baseball. When someone is out, another player steps in to take their place. No one is irreplaceable in this game.”
When asked about Shohei Ohtani’s historic achievement of 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season, Acuña diplomatically left the debate to the media:
“That’s an interesting question, but I’ll leave that for you guys to discuss.”
High Expectations for Opening Day 2025
Ronald Acuña Jr. remains not only a cornerstone of the Atlanta Braves but also a symbol of resilience and determination in baseball. As he works diligently to return stronger, fans are hopeful that he will once again lead the team to success in the upcoming season.
With Ronald Acuña Jr. back in action, the Braves are poised for a bright and competitive 2025 season.
