Darren Till has found himself in the spotlight, albeit not for the right reasons, following Tommy Fury’s decision to pull out of their scheduled boxing match in January. The former UFC star didn’t hold back, voicing his frustration and unleashing a tirade after learning of Fury’s withdrawal and subsequent disregard for him.
The news broke this week that Tommy Fury decided to withdraw from the fight after expressing concerns about Till’s intentions. Fury claimed that Till had repeatedly suggested he would abandon professional boxing rules and resort to MMA tactics, such as head kicks, if the fight didn’t go his way.
Fury explained his decision in a public statement:
“I can’t believe I’m writing this, but I will not be fighting Darren Till on January 18, 2025. The simple reason is that Darren has stated numerous times that he won’t adhere to the rules of professional boxing and would resort to head kicks and other stupid MMA tactics if he lost.
“I’m a professional boxer. I’ve been out of the ring for over a year, and I wanted this to be a great boxing match for the fans. I’ve wasted weeks in training camp. We are now working hard to find a new opponent and fight date. I promise a better opponent and a better fight for you all. Good news is coming.”
Darren Till didn’t hold back when responding to the news, expressing his anger over Fury’s team allegedly avoiding communication with him and his camp. Till stated:
“I just found out my team knew Tommy Fury was pulling out on Sunday. They didn’t want to tell me because they were trying to reach John Fury, but obviously, he wasn’t answering the phone.
“Tommy, you were never going to fight me on that date, you coward. Don’t ever show your face around me again!”
In a video posted online, Till clarified that his earlier comments about head-kicking Fury were nothing more than a psychological tactic to promote the fight.
“I just got to the gym this morning to train, and I’ve been shown Tommy Fury’s pathetic post saying he’s not fighting me because I threatened to head-kick him.
“I said that as a bit of mental warfare during the press conference, and since then, I haven’t said another word about it. I’ve been working hard in the gym to prepare for this boxing match with him on January 18.”
Till claimed he had suspected Fury would pull out all along, and the withdrawal confirmed his belief.
“I told everyone Tommy would pull out no matter what. I knew it from the press conference. So now it’s confirmed. He’s a coward; his family are cowards, and now Tommy isn’t fighting anymore.”
He didn’t stop there, turning his attention to Fury and his family: I sold this fight to make us both money, you empty-headed fool. Wrestling family, you cowards—you and your dad are cowards
“I don’t need to throw head kicks. You were done already, you divvy. We made money off this fight because of me, not you. I built it. You should’ve fought and thanked me.”
The fallout from Tommy Fury’s withdrawal leaves questions about what’s next for both fighters. Fury is reportedly seeking a new opponent to keep his January fight plans alive, while Till must decide whether to pursue another bout or continue the verbal feud with Fury.
As the dust settles, one thing is clear: this fight, even in its absence, has generated plenty of headlines. Whether their paths cross again remains to be seen, but the bad blood between Darren Till and Tommy Fury is far from over.
