Ducks Get Silver Lining in Trevor Zegras Injury Update

The Anaheim Ducks received a bittersweet update on forward Trevor Zegras, who recently underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. While such injuries often require a lengthy recovery, the timeline for Zegras’s return is much more optimistic than initially feared.

Trevor Zegras Injury Update

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman provided the latest on Zegras via his X account, stating:
Anaheim’s Trevor Zegras had surgery today to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He’s out six weeks. It’s actually much, much better than was initially feared. So good news for Zegras and the Ducks, thankfully.

Zegras sustained the injury on December 4 during a game against the Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center. The Ducks will now proceed without their talented forward, who is expected to miss six weeks, a far shorter timeline than some had anticipated.

Without Zegras, Anaheim faces a tough road ahead, including their next matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.

Zegras’s Struggles in the 2024-25 Season

This injury comes amid a challenging season for Trevor Zegras, who has struggled to find consistency. In 24 games, Zegras has recorded just four goals and six assists, marking a disappointing start to the campaign.

Though he began to show signs of improvement with three goals and four assists in his last seven games, his early-season output was underwhelming. In his first 15 games, Zegras managed just one empty-net goal and two assists.

Drafted ninth overall in 2019, Zegras has yet to fully meet the high expectations set for him. Despite signing a three-year contract last season, his inconsistent performances and now frequent injuries have raised concerns about his durability and long-term role with the Ducks.

Recurring Injury Woes

This marks the third significant injury for Zegras in recent memory.

Last season, he missed 20 games due to a lower-body injury.

He later sat out an additional 31 games with a broken ankle.
Now, the torn meniscus adds to the growing list of setbacks for the 22-year-old, further complicating his ability to establish himself as a reliable core player for Anaheim.

Silver Lining for Anaheim

While Zegras’s absence is a blow for the Ducks, the relatively short six-week timeline offers hope for a midseason return. If he can recover fully and regain form, Zegras could still play a significant role in helping Anaheim navigate the second half of the season.

For now, the Ducks will look to other players to step up in his absence as they aim to stay competitive in a challenging Western Conference. While Trevor Zegras’s injury is another chapter in his frustrating battle with consistency and health, the shortened recovery period provides a glimmer of hope for both him and the Ducks. If Zegras can overcome this latest setback, he still has an opportunity to prove his value and live up to the potential that made him a top-10 pick in the NHL Draft. This current ailment is the third injury that Zegras has suffered in recent memory; he missed 20 games last season after suffering a lower-body injury, and followed that by missing another 31 games thanks to a broken ankle.
