From NASCAR Champion to Father of Three: How He Maintains a Balance Between Racing and Family!

Joey Logano, now 33, first caught the public’s eye in NASCAR as a teenager, racing toward success with a confidence that seemed to defy his age. But today, his role has expanded beyond that of a two-time Cup Series champion. Now, he proudly carries the title of “Dad” three times over. Juggling the intensity of a NASCAR career with family life, Logano’s world in North Carolina is busy, especially with three young children under seven.

NASCAR: A Demanding Profession

The life of a NASCAR driver is intense, often following a demanding script each week. Sponsor events, team meetings, media obligations, and travel for races fill the calendar of a driver. The 38-race season is a marathon that tests even the most dedicated professionals. Amid this, family life has to fit into the tight gaps. For Logano, maintaining a balance means keeping work and family life in their own respective boxes.

Work-Life Balance: A Delicate Wall of Separation

For Logano, maintaining work-life balance comes down to a clear boundary. He keeps his focus intact by drawing a “wall” between work and family. “I try to do things one at a time,” Logano explained. When he’s at work, his wife Brittany knows not to call him unless it’s an emergency. Similarly, when he’s at home, work knows it’s time to let him be. Logano believes this allows him to be fully present wherever he is, whether it’s on the racetrack or with his family.

His approach may sound simple, but it’s critical. Racing demands his full attention, given the responsibilities he holds for his team’s livelihoods. “I don’t want to take anything away from my family when I’m with them, but I also can’t afford to not give racing 100 percent of my effort when I’m there,” he said. For Logano, managing these priorities means giving each area of his life his undivided attention.

Family Life: A Whirlwind of Energy and Joy

With three young children—Hudson, 6, Jameson, 3, and Emilia, who’s almost 2—life at the Logano home is chaotic but full of love. Their schedule mirrors that of any parent with young kids, but it’s compounded by Logano’s unpredictable race schedule. It’s clear that the days feel too short to balance it all. Yet, Joey’s method of compartmentalizing allows him to fully invest in each moment, whether it’s race day or a backyard adventure with his children.

Logano admits there are moments when he feels like he hasn’t done enough as a father. However, he takes comfort in knowing that setting a strong example and showing his children the value of hard work is part of being a good dad. “It’s hard. There are days when you feel like you didn’t do a good enough job of being a dad,” he said. “But part of being a good dad is setting a good example.”

Fatherhood: A Life-Changing Experience

Fatherhood has changed Logano in ways he never anticipated. “It’s been great. Honestly, it’s changed me as a person for the better,” he said, acknowledging that parenthood teaches lessons that one could never expect. He believes that children help make you a better person, and while there’s still much to learn, Logano embraces the journey.

Hudson, the eldest of the three Logano children, has already developed a love for racing. He’s even started piloting a four-wheeler around the Logano family’s backyard and dipping his toes into quarter-midget racing. However, Joey is cautious and wants to ensure his son doesn’t feel pressured by his legacy. “I don’t want him to think he has to reach a certain level because his dad did,” Logano explained. “When we go to race, we throw stuff in the back of the pickup, and he takes his dirty helmet. I want him to be as normal as possible.”

The Pursuit of Normalcy in a NASCAR World

In a world where the limelight rarely dims, “normal” is a rare and precious goal for Joey Logano. As much as he can, he tries to offer his children a childhood not defined by their famous father. “Normal” might not be a word that typically comes to mind when you think of NASCAR life, but it’s a term Logano is actively working toward as a father. The pursuit of normalcy is, in many ways, his most important race yet.

By compartmentalizing his professional and personal life and striving for a normal family experience, Logano continues to redefine what it means to be a NASCAR champion and a dedicated father. As the father of three young children, Joey’s balance of family and racing is a constant work in progress—but one that’s shaping his legacy in ways far more lasting than any trophy.
