Jorge Martin, the newly crowned 2024 MotoGP™ World Champion, has made his debut on the cover of Men’s Health magazine this December, the world’s largest men’s magazine brand. The 26-year-old Spaniard, currently racing for Aprilia Racing, shared insights into his mindset shift after narrowly missing the championship title in 2023 to Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia.
In his conversation with Men’s Health, Martin revealed a significant change in his mentality, which played a crucial role in his victory. After losing the 2023 title to Bagnaia, Martin focused on evolving beyond his obsession with winning. He openly shared his new perspective, stating that while winning is undeniably rewarding, it is ultimately “empty” if pursued without a deeper purpose.
“Winning is great, that’s very clear, but you have to look a little further… I think winning without more is something empty,” said Martin. The young champion emphasized that his current approach is about finding a deeper meaning in victory—not just for himself, but for his fans and future generations. “I think you have to look for a deeper meaning, winning for your people, leaving something for the future. I look for that meaning in things so I don’t get obsessed with the fact of winning,” he explained.
This new mindset helped Martin focus on the bigger picture, ultimately leading to his 2024 MotoGP™ World Championship title. In a nail-biting season finale in Barcelona, Martin maintained his composure under immense pressure and secured the championship, defeating Bagnaia by just 10 points. His mental clarity and self-awareness were crucial in overcoming the challenges of the sport.
Reflecting on his growth, Martin acknowledged the importance of mental strength in his success. “Basically, I’ve worked a bit on my head, I had room in that sense. Before I was obsessed with winning, I wanted to win and that’s it, and I’ve discovered that doesn’t make me win more,” he shared.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Martin will face a new challenge riding Aprilia’s RS-GP. However, with his refreshed outlook and newfound maturity, he is ready to take on the reigning champion and continue his journey in motorcycle racing.
Jorge Martin’s journey in 2024 is a testament to how personal growth, both mentally and emotionally, can lead to greater success. His story is a reminder that true victory is not just about crossing the finish line first, but about finding purpose, balance, and meaning along the way.
