The 26-year-old delves into his significant mentality shift after missing out on the 2023 crown to factory Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia. Admitting that he’s a more “mature” character in 2024, Martin explains to Men’s Health why he had to move away from an obsessive winning mindset.

“Well, obviously winning is great, that’s very clear, but you have to go a little further… I think that winning without more is something empty,” said the World Champion. “I think you have to look for a deeper meaning, winning for your people, to leave something for the future. I look for that meaning in things so I don’t get obsessed with the fact of winning,” added Martin.

Championship Success: A New Approach

This shift in mentality was crucial for the Aprilia Racing star as it helped him clinch a second World Championship title. With a heap of pressure on his shoulders, Martin managed to hold his nerve and beat Bagnaia by 10 points in Barcelona’s nail-biting title decider.

“Basically, I’ve worked a bit on my head. I had room for improvement in that sense. Before, I was obsessed with winning – I wanted to win and that’s it. But I’ve discovered that this obsession doesn’t lead to more victories,” continued Martin. In 2025, he faces a fresh challenge on Aprilia’s RS-GP, but he will be doing it as the reigning king of motorcycle racing.
