BEREA, Ohio – Despite enduring another season with double-digit losses, Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns’ star defensive end, remains committed to continuing his career in Cleveland. However, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year is eager for assurance that the organization is serious about building a winning team in the near future.
On Friday, Garrett expressed his desire to remain with the Browns but emphasized the importance of understanding the team’s offseason strategy, particularly in key areas like the quarterback position.
“I’m not here for a rebuild,” Garrett stated firmly. “I want to win now. When the season concludes and we have those discussions, I want the organization to clearly show me their vision for success. It’s important that I can see a path to victory in the near future because that’s all I’m focused on.”
Commitment and Accountability
Garrett, who has been with the Browns since they selected him as the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, reiterated his loyalty to the team. However, he also noted that both players and organizations must make decisions that align with their best interests.
“I’ve always wanted to stay loyal to the team that believed in me and drafted me,” he said. “But at the end of the day, both sides need to do what’s best for themselves. If we can align on a shared vision—winning, making deep playoff runs, and building an elite defense—that would put my mind at ease and allow me to stay focused.”
Contract and Cap Space
Garrett, 28, has two years remaining on the five-year extension he signed in 2020. While his current deal has solidified his place as one of the league’s premier defenders, a new agreement during the offseason could provide the Browns with much-needed salary cap relief. Since joining the team, Garrett has appeared in just three playoff games, a statistic he is determined to improve.
Leadership and Coaching
Last week, Garrett voiced his support for head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry, who have been at the helm since the 2020 season. However, Friday’s remarks highlighted his desire for more transparency regarding the team’s direction.
“I trust our leadership, but I also need to see a clear commitment to winning,” Garrett said. “That includes making the necessary moves and showing that this organization is serious about competing at the highest level.”
Future Aspirations
As the Browns head into another pivotal offseason, Garrett’s comments reflect both his personal ambition and his hope for the team’s future. He has been a cornerstone of Cleveland’s defense, setting franchise records and earning multiple Pro Bowl selections.
The Browns, however, have struggled to maintain consistent success, leaving Garrett and the fanbase hungry for more than just individual accolades. With critical decisions looming, the organization must address its shortcomings and demonstrate its commitment to competing for a championship.
Looking Ahead
Garrett’s expectations are clear: he wants the Browns to assemble a team capable of winning now. For Cleveland, this means addressing weaknesses, solidifying key positions, and building on the foundation Garrett has helped establish.
As discussions unfold in the offseason, all eyes will be on the Browns’ leadership to deliver a roadmap that aligns with Garrett’s ambitions. Whether through strategic player acquisitions or coaching adjustments, the organization has an opportunity to secure the trust of its defensive superstar and chart a course toward long-term success.
In Garrett’s words, “Winning, advancing deep into the playoffs, and building a dominant defense—these are the goals. I’m ready to work toward them, but I need to see the same commitment from the team.”
