Novak Djokovic recently secured a dominant victory, advancing to the quarterfinals of Brisbane International 2025. Notably, he defeated the ever-familiar Gael Monfils, with an overwhelming scoreline of 6-3 in both sets. This victory marks Djokovic’s 20th win over the Frenchman, solidifying his long-standing dominance on the ATP Tour.
Over the past two decades, Novak Djokovic has been an undisputed force in men’s tennis. His mental strength, solid playing style, and world-class talent make him extremely difficult to defeat. Djokovic continues to prevail against top-tier players, securing victories across numerous tournaments and cementing his status as one of the greatest in the history of the sport.
When asked who is most familiar with Djokovic’s playing style, the answer undoubtedly points to Gael Monfils, who has faced Djokovic on numerous occasions, including their first meeting at the 2005 US Open. Since then, Monfils has suffered 19 defeats at the hands of the Serbian star.
The 20th defeat came on Thursday, February 1st, 2025, at the Queensland Tennis Center, where Monfils succumbed to Djokovic with a 6-3, 6-3 scoreline after just 74 minutes of play.
Reflecting on this latest victory, Djokovic shared: “We’ve played against each other for many years. I’ve known Gael since I was 15 years old. We’ve faced off quite a few times in junior competitions and on the ATP Tour.”
“I’ve had some good results against him, although we’ve played some incredible and entertaining matches. He is one of the best players, if not the best,” Djokovic continued.
“Over the years, he’s been known for his speed, flexibility, and incredible agility,” Djokovic added, continuing to praise Monfils’ skills.
“He’s a wonderful player to watch and a great personality who attracts fans all over the world to the stadiums. We respect him a lot and hope we can play a few more matches before both of us retire,” said Djokovic, acknowledging Monfils’ popularity and impact on the tennis community.
Throughout his career, Djokovic has not just dominated Monfils but has also maintained a strong winning record against other players. He boasts a 14-0 head-to-head record against Jeremy Chardy, 12-0 against both Andreas Seppi and Milos Raonic, and a 10-0 record against Taylor Fritz. Djokovic’s continued success further emphasizes his unparalleled dominance on the court.
