Pitt Volleyball Adds Florida State Transfer Libero Emery Dupes

Under the guidance of head coach Dan Fisher, the Pitt volleyball program is making bold moves to ensure another strong season following their impressive run to the NCAA Final Four. Despite suffering a tough loss to Louisville in the national semifinals—marking their fourth consecutive defeat at this stage—the Panthers are already looking ahead. Fisher and his staff have wasted no time addressing key roster needs and securing Florida State libero Emery Dupes‘ commitment to bolstering their defensive lineup.

This addition comes at a crucial time for the Panthers, who strive to build on their success and finally break through the Final Four barrier. Dupes, a talented and experienced player, brings both skill and resilience to a position left vacant by the graduation of standout libero Emmy Klika. Her arrival signals Pitt’s determination to remain a dominant force in collegiate volleyball and sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting 2024 season.

A Key Addition for Pitt

With libero Emmy Klika graduating, the Panthers faced a critical void in their back-row defence. Dupes is set to compete with Dillyn Griffin and Mallorie Meyer to fill this important role. Her experience and impressive record make her a strong contender to lead Pitt’s defensive efforts in the upcoming season.

Dupes’ Impressive Track Record

Dupes was instrumental in Florida State’s success this season, helping the Seminoles to a 21-10 record and securing an NCAA Tournament berth. She appeared in all but one set for the team, recording 166 digs (1.43 per set).

Over her career with the Seminoles, Dupes has played in 318 sets, tallying 212 assists (0.67 per set) and 872 digs (2.74 per set). Despite missing the entire 2023 season due to injury, she bounced back with a strong performance this year, proving her resilience and dedication.

Her standout season as a freshman earned her All-Freshman Conference honors, leading the Seminoles with 419 digs (3.88 per set). Dupes’ ability to perform under pressure and her consistency on the court make her a valuable addition to Pitt’s roster.

The Panthers’ Path Forward

While Pitt bids farewell to key players like Klika, Rachel Fairbanks, Valeria Vazquez Gomez, and Cat Flood, the team retains a core of standout talent, including Olivia Babcock, Torrey Stafford, and Bre Kelley.

Pitt finished the 2023 season with an impressive 33-2 record (19-1 in the ACC) and held the No. 1 national ranking for much of the year. Despite earning the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and making another Final Four appearance, the Panthers fell short against a formidable Louisville team.

Building for a Championship

The addition of Dupes signals Pitt’s commitment to overcoming their Final Four hurdle. Her defensive prowess and experience in high-pressure situations will be a critical asset as the Panthers aim to break through and compete for a national championship.

Coach Fisher and his staff are laying the groundwork for another deep tournament run, ensuring the team remains a perennial powerhouse in collegiate volleyball. With Dupes on board, Pitt’s defensive line gains a steady hand and a proven leader, further solidifying their championship aspirations.

As the Panthers regroup and prepare for the 2024 season, the addition of Dupes underscores a clear message: Pitt is ready to return stronger, more determined, and one step closer to NCAA glory.
