A Boxer Who Refuses to Quit
Robbie Davies Jr. isn’t the kind of guy to just sit back and let younger fighters use him as a stepping stone. After a tough loss to Sergey Lipinets in May, his fifth career defeat, it would’ve been easy for the 35-year-old boxer to call it quits. But instead, Davies showed real resilience, proving he’s not ready to hang up his gloves just yet. Now, he’s gearing up for his next big challenge: a fight against Javier Fortuna at the SSE Odyssey Arena in Belfast on November 1.
For Davies, boxing isn’t just about chasing titles or big paydays. He’s in it to face the best opponents out there. That’s why a matchup with someone like Fortuna, a fighter who’s already gone toe-to-toe with big names like Joseph Diaz and Ryan Garcia, excites him. At 35, Davies is done with fighting up-and-comers who don’t spark his interest. He’s been in the game for over a decade, and now he’s all about the big leagues.
It’s clear that his love for the sport keeps him motivated. Davies isn’t looking to fight for the money or the titles alone. His main drive is his passion for the sport of boxing. As he prepares for this next fight, he’s ready to prove he’s still got what it takes to compete at the highest level, pushing through whatever obstacles come his way.
Life After Boxing: Robbie Davies Jr. Helps Kids in Need
While boxing is still at the forefront of Davies’ career, he’s already planning for the future. Through a chance encounter with child social care, Davies found a new calling in helping young people who’ve experienced abuse or neglect. He initially started volunteering at a local youth club, but when his mom suggested he become a youth worker, he decided to take it seriously. Davies is studying for a Level 4 GNVQ in child social care while continuing his boxing career.
His work with at-risk kids has been incredibly eye-opening, offering Davies a new sense of fulfillment. It’s not easy, but helping these kids in need has proven to be even more rewarding than his time in the ring. Whether he’s offering a listening ear or providing guidance, Davies feels he’s making a real difference in the community.
Even with his focus on helping others, boxing remains a huge part of Davies’ life. He’s found the perfect balance, keeping his competitive spirit alive while also working to give back to others. It’s not an easy road, but it’s a journey he’s passionate about—one that’s full of meaningful impact.
Looking back, Davies is proud of his achievements in the ring. While he acknowledges there were things he could’ve done differently, he’s not dwelling on the past. Instead, he’s focused on the future, both as a fighter and as someone who is making a lasting difference in his community.
