Sebastian Korda’s Unforgettable First Minnesota Vikings Game: A Dream Come True
Sebastian Korda, the rising star in men’s tennis, recently experienced a milestone moment off the court—his first-ever visit to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis to watch the Minnesota Vikings take on the Atlanta Falcons. Korda, a passionate fan of the NFL franchise, had been eagerly anticipating this experience for over a year, and when the stars finally aligned, it proved to be everything he imagined and more.
The 24-year-old American was first drawn to the Vikings by his fellow countryman Mardy Fish, but it was the binge-watching of the Netflix documentary “Quarterback,” which follows former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, that truly solidified Korda’s loyalty to the team. Since then, he has been hooked. “Haven’t missed a game in three years,” Korda shared, showing just how invested he has become in the team’s fortunes.
Korda had long dreamed of attending a game in person, but it wasn’t until this offseason that his schedule allowed for the perfect opportunity. He jumped at the chance to see the Vikings live in action, especially with Kirk Cousins making his return to the stadium. “I’ve been looking to go to a game for the last year but never had the time,” Korda said. “Had a free weekend and wanted to see Kirk’s return game.”
Thanks to Bob Hagan, the former Vikings VP of PR, and Mardy Fish, Korda’s wish was fulfilled. Not only did he get to experience the excitement of a live NFL game, but he also received VIP treatment, enjoying a stadium tour and pre-game field access. During his visit, Korda had the chance to meet two of the Vikings’ stars: safety Harrison Smith and head coach Kevin O’Connell, affectionately known as “KOC.”
Reflecting on his experience, Korda was full of praise for the event and the people he met. “The atmosphere was one of the best I’ve seen in sports,” he remarked. “The fans are insane,” adding that the excitement and energy in the stadium left a lasting impression. Of his interactions with KOC and Harrison Smith, Korda said, “They were the nicest guys. Couldn’t think of a better first game.”
The Vikings ultimately triumphed in the game, rolling to a 42-21 victory, marking their sixth consecutive win. With the victory, they remain within striking distance of the NFC North division leader, the Detroit Lions.
While Korda’s tennis career has been on an upward trajectory, with a career-high ATP ranking of No. 22 and a breakthrough win at the 2024 Washington, D.C. Open, his off-court passion for football and his unforgettable experience at U.S. Bank Stadium make for an exciting chapter in his journey. Korda capped off his 2024 season by undergoing elbow surgery, but he is already looking forward to the 2025 campaign, which will kick off at the Brisbane International. The tournament promises to be a star-studded event, with Novak Djokovic, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov, Frances Tiafoe, and the returning Nick Kyrgios all participating.
As Korda prepares for the next chapter in his tennis career, his memorable experience with the Minnesota Vikings is one that he won’t soon forget. It’s a reminder that even the world’s top athletes have personal passions beyond their sport, and for Korda, his first Vikings game was truly a dream come true.
