George Russell Shines in Las Vegas
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff had nothing but praise for George Russell ‘s stellar performance at the Las Vegas Grand Prix . The Briton turned pole position into an impressive victory under the bright lights of Nevada, leading a 1-2 race for Mercedes—a dream result for the Silver Arrows .
The Perfect Start for Mercedes
Mercedes got off to a flying start in Las Vegas. The cool conditions seemed to suit the W15 , with Lewis Hamilton leading the first two testing sessions. Russell was no slouch either, taking pole position in qualifying. However, Hamilton struggled in Q3 , finishing 10th on the grid. Hamilton quickly fought his way into the top 10, though, and followed Russell to the finish, marking Mercedes’ first win since the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix .
Toto Wolff Talks About Mercedes’ Breakthrough
“It feels great, especially when someone really knows these cars,” Wolff told Sky Sports F1 . “Today, we really crushed everyone—we were dominant—and we could have gone even faster. Sometimes we were two seconds faster.” Wolff stressed that designing a car that works well on every track is the ultimate goal. Mercedes seem to be very strong at high speeds , especially in cold, low-grip conditions.
While Russell led from the start, he had to work hard to keep pace with Ferrari ‘s Charles Leclerc , who showed impressive straight-line speed. Meanwhile, Hamilton also fought hard to overtake rivals, including Max Verstappen , on the challenging track.
Wolff Praises Russell’s Driving Style
Wolff did not hold back his admiration for Russell’s driving, describing it as extraordinary. “George’s driving today was truly from another planet—he was in control and calm at every moment,” said Wolff. He also highlighted Russell’s impressive defense of Leclerc and noted the excellent performance of Hamilton, who finished just five seconds behind Russell.
Towards New Challenges
Finally, Wolff congratulated Max Verstappen on winning the championship title : “He is a worthy champion, and we look forward to competing with him next year.” With recent successes, Mercedes is on a strong recovery path, promising to bring many surprises in the coming seasons.
