Zverev’s Thunderous Serve Takes Him to the Top of 2024 Aces Leaderboard!

Zverev Leads 2024 Aces List as He Powers His Way Back to No. 2 in the World

In an exceptional 2024 season, Alexander Zverev has solidified his status as one of the most powerful servers in men’s tennis, firing a career-high total of 797 aces across 90 matches, according to Infosys ATP Stats. This remarkable achievement not only secured Zverev the top spot on the 2024 aces leaderboard, but also marked the first time in his career that he has led the ATP in aces.

Although Zverev had finished inside the Top 5 in aces in previous years, including a peak of 749 aces in 2021, the 27-year-old’s 2024 total surpasses his past performances, proving that his devastating serve remains one of the key weapons in his arsenal. This weapon played a vital role in his return to a career-high No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings, showcasing the crucial role of his serve in his overall game.

While Zverev’s aces total of 797 may be the lowest to lead the ATP in a season since Guy Forget‘s 595 aces in 1991, the German’s ability to consistently deliver on serve has been instrumental in his overall success this year. In second place on the 2024 aces leaderboard is Hubert Hurkacz, who hit 736 aces across 58 matches despite undergoing meniscus surgery in July. Hurkacz’s ability to maintain such a strong serving performance, even through injury, underscores his resilience and impressive skill.

The explosive American duo of Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton also made their mark in the aces rankings. Fritz, known for his booming serve, hit 725 aces, while Shelton tallied 619 aces. Both players reached career-high ATP rankings this season, with their strong serves being the foundation of their impressive career progressions. Fritz and Shelton were among only four players to hit over 600 aces in 2024, demonstrating the importance of serving power in today’s game.

One of the most notable improvements on the aces leaderboard came from Jannik Sinner, the World No. 1, whose vastly improved serve saw him hit 563 aces in 2024. His strong service game helped him secure a Top 10 debut on the aces leaderboard, finishing sixth. Additionally, Sinner led the ATP Tour in service game win percentage, at an impressive 91.4%, further demonstrating the strength of his serving abilities.

Another breakthrough performer in 2024 was Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, whose explosive serve was a highlight of his season. The 21-year-old, who won two ATP Tour titles in Lyon and Basel, recorded 532 aces in just 28 matches to finish eighth in the rankings. Mpetshi Perricard’s standout moment came at Wimbledon, where he became just the seventh man in history to hit over 50 aces in a single match, showcasing his immense potential.

The 2024 aces leaderboard highlights the critical role of serving in modern tennis, with players like Zverev, Fritz, Shelton, Sinner, and Mpetshi Perricard proving that a powerful serve can be a game-changer. As these players continue to rise through the ranks, it will be exciting to see how their serving prowess shapes the future of the sport.
