Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden has joined an elite group of NBA players, hitting a major milestone by reaching 3,000 career three-pointers, a feat that places him alongside Stephen Curry as one of only two players in NBA history to achieve this remarkable accomplishment.

James Harden Hits 3,000 3-Pointers in Victory Over Denver Nuggets

On Sunday, December 1, 2024, during the first half of a thrilling matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets, Harden made history with his 3,000th career three-pointer. The shot came during the first half of the game, as he hit three threes to bring his total to 2,998 points. He then added three more in the second half, leading the Clippers to a 126-122 victory over the Nuggets. Harden finished the game with 39 points, just shy of a triple-double, as he also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out 11 assists.

“Another one of those accomplishments that you never take for granted,” Harden said after the game. “The amount of work that I’ve put in — countless days and nights where I put the work in — a lot of people don’t see it but the results happen, so I’m just thankful.”

A Standout Week for Harden

This historic achievement capped off an incredible week for the 35-year-old veteran guard. Just a few days prior, Harden scored 43 points in a road win over the Washington Wizards, marking his most points as a Clipper. This was his 100th career game with 40 or more points, joining NBA legends like Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan in the exclusive club.

Harden’s ability to lead the Clippers has been even more crucial this season with superstar Kawhi Leonard sidelined due to inflammation in his right knee. In Leonard’s absence, Harden has taken on a larger offensive role, at times showcasing the scoring prowess he displayed during his peak years with the Houston Rockets.

Harden’s Leadership and Maturity

Clippers head coach Michael Malone noted that Harden’s evolution as a player has been remarkable. “He makes almost every key decision for their offense,” Malone said. “He can beat you with his playmaking as well, and that shows you the talent, that shows you the quality of his game, where he’s not solely the scorer.”

Harden has also embraced the role of mentor for the Clippers’ younger players, a responsibility he finds rewarding. “It’s easy for me just because I’ve been in this situation for a lot of my NBA career. Just helping guys as much as I can to where it makes the game a lot easier for them,” Harden explained. “It’s really fun.”

Clippers’ Chemistry with Harden

Teammate Norman Powell expressed his admiration for Harden’s court vision and leadership. “It’s difficult to see from afar, but on the floor knowing when to attack, knowing when to get his shot off, when to get the guys open, the pass that he makes. He knows how to get guys open and to get the most out of the team.”

As Harden continues to lead the Clippers with his stellar performances, his milestone of 3,000 career three-pointers solidifies his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history. With his experience, leadership, and scoring ability, Harden remains a key figure in the Clippers’ pursuit of success this season.
