Jake Paul couldn’t resist mocking Tommy Fury after the announcement that Fury had withdrawn from his upcoming fight with former UFC fighter Darren Till. The fight was scheduled for January 18, 2025, at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, but Fury backed out after Till‘s threat to head-kick him, igniting a series of verbal exchanges between the two fighters.
Fury’s withdrawal came after Till’s bold statement at a press conference, where he joked about kicking Fury in the head if he lost. Tommy Fury, who recently defeated KSI by unanimous decision in October 2023, expressed his concerns on Instagram about Till’s behavior and his disregard for professional boxing rules.
Fury’s Reason for Withdrawal
Fury stated on Instagram:
“A simple reason is Darren has repeatedly said he doesn’t want to follow the rules of professional boxing and that if he loses, he’ll use head kicks and other stupid MMA tactics.”
“I’m a professional boxer, I’ve been out of the ring for over a year, and I want this to be a great boxing match for the fans. I’ve wasted weeks in training camp. We’re working hard to find a new opponent and fight date. I promise a better opponent and a better fight for you. Good news is coming.”
Fury’s decision was met with surprise from many, including Jake Paul, who had a few words of his own. Paul, who lost to Tommy Fury by split decision in March 2023, posted a sarcastic “hahahaha” in response to the news of Fury pulling out. Paul seems to have found some satisfaction in Fury’s decision, given his own career trajectory in 2023, which included victories over Ryan Bourland, Mike Perry, and even a sparring session with Mike Tyson, while Fury has yet to fight again since his victory over KSI.
Darren Till’s Furious Reaction
Darren Till, who had been preparing for the fight, was not pleased with Fury’s withdrawal. Till expressed his frustration on social media, accusing Fury and his family of cowardice. He called Fury’s decision to back out a cowardly move and boldly stated that he didn’t need to resort to MMA tactics to beat Fury. Till claimed:
“I sold this fight to make money for both of us, you empty-headed fool. Wrestling family, you cowards. You and your dad are cowards.”
“I don’t need to throw kicks to knock you out. You should retire. We’re making money from this fight because of me, not you. I built it. You should’ve fought and thanked me.”
Till’s frustration also extended to a previous press conference, where Fury mocked him, telling him to step into the ring. Till responded, saying that if he couldn’t beat Fury, he would kick him in the face. Fury dismissed this, claiming that boxing wasn’t like MMA, but Till remained defiant.
“Obviously, I’ll be able to do that. How are you going to stop me? If I lose, I’ll kick you straight in the face. You won’t even know what hit you.”
The Fallout and Social Media Drama
The drama didn’t end at the press conference. Till continued the confrontation online, even sharing John Fury’s phone number on X (formerly Twitter) with a message that read: “Thank you, John Fury.” The post quickly went viral, garnering over 10,000 views before Till deleted it. His followers responded, questioning the legitimacy of the phone number.
This online spat came just a day after Till claimed he would “terrorize” John Fury and his entire family in the lead-up to the January 18 fight. Till shared his thoughts on The Ariel Helwani Show, recounting the chaos from the press conference and asserting that no one stopped John Fury from confronting him.
“I’ve never seen the Furys act like this. They’ve been bullied. You can’t call someone crazy after they’ve just stepped out of a press conference. No one stopped [John Fury]. I had 10 security guards holding me back. What did he do? Nothing.”
“I’ll terrorize him and his family for the next nine weeks. No one will be able to stop me.”
Till’s bold words and relentless pursuit of the fight have kept him in the public eye. As Fury looks to find a new opponent, the bad blood between Till and the Fury family is far from over.
