Navarro’s Big Move to Ireland for His Professional Debut

Jonathan Navarro is ready for a major moment on December 7, as he heads to Waterford, Ireland, for a 10-round showdown against Jair Valtierra. This fight, streaming live on ProBox TV from SETU Arena, marks Navarro’s first fight overseas as a pro, and he’s eager to show the Irish fans what he’s made of. Although the 27-year-old from California has represented USA Boxing around the world, this will be his first professional fight outside the United States.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” Navarro said. “I’ve represented the USA in different countries, but this is my first time fighting abroad as a pro. I hope the Irish fans love my performance and want to see more from me.”

Though the venue is thousands of miles away from his California roots, Navarro feels like he’s returning to his boxing roots—ready to bring the same energy he had as an amateur.

Facing a Tough Opponent in Jair Valtierra

Standing across from Navarro will be Jair Valtierra, a determined Mexican boxer with a record of 17-3 (9 KOs). While Valtierra has recently lost to top-rank standouts like Raymond Muratalla and Lindolfo Delgado, Navarro knows better than to underestimate him. “He’s Mexican, so you know he’s going to bring heart,” said Navarro. “I’m expecting him to come forward and fight hard the whole time. We’re ready to go all 10 rounds if we have to.”

Navarro’s return to boxing earlier this year wasn’t without challenges. After a five-year hiatus due to a serious biceps injury, he returned in July to face Clarence Booth. The fight was tough, but it helped Navarro shake off some of the ring rust. “Booth was stronger than I expected. That was the hardest fight I’ve had,” Navarro admitted. “It was a different kind of pressure, but I’m glad I got the win.”

Navarro isn’t just focused on this fight. He has his sights set on bigger opportunities ahead. He’s been training hard in Long Beach, working with his former amateur coach Sal Zavala, and sparring at the renowned Robert Garcia Boxing Academy in Riverside. Navarro’s confident that all the hard work will pay off in Ireland. “I’ve studied Valeria a lot. Timing is going to be key for me,” Navarro said. “I’m just ready to get back in there and show what I’ve got. Hopefully, after this fight, we can line up something big—maybe even a top-10 opponent.”

As Navarro prepares to step into the ring in Waterford, it’s clear he’s focused, motivated, and ready to prove he belongs among the sport’s elite. A win on December 7 could open the door for even bigger challenges and opportunities in the world of professional boxing.
