Red Bull’s F1 advisor, Helmut Marko, has expressed curiosity about the potential for a “great harmony” between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton as they team up at Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton’s move from Mercedes to Ferrari, officially announced in February, marks the end of his long-standing relationship with the German manufacturer, where he competed exclusively during his F1 career. The transfer positions Ferrari with arguably the strongest driver lineup on the grid, yet Marko suggests that success isn’t guaranteed.
Speaking to Austrian publication OE24, Marko remarked that George Russell had “dominated” Hamilton this season and raised questions about Ferrari’s new dynamic.
“Russell has been more dominant than Hamilton this year,” Marko noted. “In terms of driver strength, Ferrari will undoubtedly be stronger next year. However, I’m curious to see if they’ll achieve the kind of harmony needed within the team.”
Tensions within Ferrari’s current lineup were evident during the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, with Charles Leclerc openly frustrated with teammate Carlos Sainz. The conflict arose when Sainz overtook Leclerc after the second pit stop, despite Ferrari’s directives against it. Leclerc’s frustration culminated in expletive-laden radio messages, highlighting the challenges of managing competitive drivers.
Ferrari had been expected to dominate in Las Vegas, but instead, Mercedes claimed a surprising 1-2 finish. This result, according to Marko, highlights the work Ferrari still needs to do, while also signaling a need for consistency at Mercedes if they aim to pose a greater threat next season.
“In Las Vegas, the conditions were unusual due to the low temperatures,” Marko explained. “We’ll see how they perform in the final two races. I don’t expect much, but hopefully, we can win at least one more race this season.”
With Ferrari’s high-profile driver pairing and the lingering questions about internal dynamics, the 2025 season promises to be one of intense scrutiny for the iconic Italian team. Whether Leclerc and Hamilton can unite for Ferrari’s resurgence or if their pairing leads to internal strife remains a pivotal storyline heading into the new year.
