The New York Knicks delivered one of their most impressive performances of the season on Monday night at Ball Arena, routing the Denver Nuggets 145-118. Combining elite ball movement and relentless scoring, the Knicks tied their franchise record with 45 assists and notched their highest point total since 1980.
“We’ve been selfless all year,” head coach Tom Thibodeau remarked. “When we move the ball like that and find the hot hand, we’re a great offensive team. Everyone contributed, and that’s what makes us dangerous.”
OG Anunoby shone brightly in this offensive masterpiece, scoring a career-high 40 points on 16-of-23 shooting, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Signed to a record $212.5 million deal in the offseason, Anunoby continued his red-hot November, averaging 21.5 points over 13 games.
“I’ve never been part of a team like this before,” said Anunoby. “It’s great to see everyone playing together and finding success.”
The Knicks’ offensive fireworks included:
Brunson commented on the team’s energy: “We got off to a great start and never looked back. The ball was moving, and everyone stepped up.”
Defensive efforts were led by Towns, who primarily guarded two-time MVP Nikola Jokic. Jokic, who entered the game averaging a triple-double this season, was held to 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists in 32 minutes.
“We knew what happened in Utah and wanted to bounce back,” said Towns, referring to their prior defensive struggles. “Going against a player like Jokic, you want to bring your best. Tonight, we did that on both ends of the floor.”
Anunoby’s dominance extended into the second half. By the third quarter, he helped extend the Knicks‘ lead to 26 points, leaving the Nuggets with no chance of a comeback. Anunoby surpassed his previous career high of 36 points, achieved with the Raptors in 2021, capping his night with two late threes.
“It feels great to score 40, but winning is better,” Anunoby said. “We won by 20-something points, and that’s what I’m most excited about
With a 10-7 record, the Knicks continue their five-game road trip in Dallas on Wednesday. If this game is any indication, their balanced attack and unselfish play could make them a formidable contender as the season progresses.
