Kraken Secure Big Win Over Devils Ahead of December 9 Matchup with Rangers

The Seattle Kraken are reminded of Vince Dunn’s impact as the defenseman returned to action after a six-week absence due to an upper-body injury. His performances in his first two games back have been nothing short of impressive.

Dunn Dominates in Victory Over Islanders

On Thursday night, Dunn delivered a standout performance with one goal and two assists to propel the Kraken to a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders in Elmont, NY. His contributions played a pivotal role in snapping Seattle back into winning form as they continued their four-game road trip.

Reflecting on his return, Dunn expressed gratitude for the team’s support. “Honestly, the points were great tonight,” Dunn said. “After being out for so long, it’s tough to get back into rhythm. But with the team playing so well, it made things easier for me, and the bounces are coming my way. I’m very thankful.”

Dunn, who has played only seven games this season, has been a force with seven points (two goals, five assists), averaging a point per game.

Head coach Dan Bylsma praised Dunn’s composure and skill: “You just play with the puck more when Vince is in the lineup. He brings so much calmness and makes smart plays. That ability to control the game is a real difference-maker.”

Offensive Contributions Lift Kraken

Seattle’s offense thrived in the win over the Islanders. Goals came from Tye Kartye, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Shane Wright, and Jaden Schwartz, with defenseman Adam Larsson adding three assists. Goaltender Joey Daccord was also stellar, stopping 27 shots to secure the victory.

Dunn’s presence was evident as he assisted on two first-period goals and scored a beauty of his own early in the second period. The Kraken extended their lead to 4-0 with a power-play goal by Wright at 13:05 in the second, sealing the Islanders’ fate.

Bjorkstrand’s opening goal, set up by Dunn, exemplified their chemistry. “Defensemen like Vince are smart about finding sticks,” Bjorkstrand said. “Sometimes it’s not about shooting to score but creating deflections. Vince made a great play, and I just tried to get my stick on it. It was a perfect setup.

Devils Riding Momentum into Friday’s Clash

The Kraken’s next challenge is against the New Jersey Devils, who enter Friday’s matchup after a dominant 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday. Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt were unstoppable, combining for seven points, while goaltender Jacob Markstrom recorded a season-high 38 saves.

Hughes, who tallied two goals and an assist, emphasized Markstrom’s importance in their success: “‘Marky’ was our best player tonight, no question. He made some incredible saves and kept us in it.”

Bratt, who will celebrate his 500th NHL game on Friday, added one goal and three assists, while Dougie Hamilton and Luke Hughes contributed key points.

Devils’ Defense a Key Factor

While New Jersey’s offense has been electrifying, their defensive commitment has been equally impressive. They blocked 27 shots against the Rangers, including 10 on the penalty kill.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe commended his players’ grit: “When it’s time to dig deep and block shots, the guys have done an incredible job. Some of them have the bruises to show for it, but they’ve stood tall.”

What to Expect in Kraken vs. Devils

Both teams enter Friday’s matchup with momentum. The Kraken will look to build on Dunn’s resurgence and their balanced offense, while the Devils aim to continue their high-scoring trend and defensive dominance.
