LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers superstar, recently announced he’s stepping away from social media following a retweet of an older post by Rich Kleiman, Kevin Durant’s agent, about the negativity in national sports coverage.
Kleiman’s October 24 post on X emphasized how sports media should unite rather than divide: “With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of National sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes. Sports is the last part of society that universally brings people together. Why can’t the coverage do the same?”
LeBron quoted the post with a simple response: “AMEN!! ” before making his farewell statement: “And with that said, I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care .”
The announcement comes during the Lakers’ impressive six-game winning streak, marking a period of focus for James as the team continues its strong performance.
James Responds to Critics and Defends His Basketball Insights
Before his social media exit, James addressed criticism accusing him of “lying” about following Dalton Knecht during his college days. “Everybody on the internet calls me a liar all the time… I’ve been said it. I watched him. I watched Tennessee a lot,” James stated, referring to his familiarity with Knecht’s college career.
The 23-year-old Lakers rookie has been making headlines, scoring a career-high 27 points and tying the NBA’s single-game rookie record with nine 3-pointers in a victory over the Utah Jazz. Knecht, a former SEC Player of the Year, is now averaging 20.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists since being added to the starting lineup.
Dalton Knecht’s Draft Story: Luck or Oversight?
While James is thrilled to have Knecht on the Lakers roster, he was candid about the circumstances of the rookie’s draft selection at No. 17 overall: “They [Lakers front office] didn’t ‘find’ DK. The other 16 teams [expletive] it up… You don’t ‘find’ a SEC Player of the Year.”
Knecht’s age was reportedly a factor that pushed teams to overlook him in favor of younger prospects, but his immediate impact in Los Angeles is proving doubters wrong.
Lakers Surge with Team Effort
As the Lakers ride a winning streak, James’ decision to leave social media signals a focus on basketball and leadership. Dalton Knecht’s breakout performances have injected fresh energy into the team, complementing the veteran presence of James as the Lakers aim to climb the Western Conference standings. James’ focus on positivity and the future reflects his enduring influence both on and off the court.
