His promotion company, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), declared that they “welcome scrutiny” but firmly denied all accusations of match-fixing. The 27-year-old Paul won a unanimous decision over 58-year-old Tyson, but both fighters faced widespread criticism regarding the quality of the bout.

MVP’s Firm Statement

In a detailed statement, MVP emphasized, “Match-fixing in a professional boxing bout is a federal crime in the United States.” They confirmed that the fight was approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and asserted that both fighters gave their all with the goal of securing victory. MVP also clarified that no contractual restrictions prevented either competitor from performing to their fullest ability.

Paul’s Reaction to the Rumors

MVP labeled allegations that Paul and Tyson didn’t give their best in the ring as an insult to both fighters. They insisted that suggesting anything less than full effort from either boxer was “absurd and ridiculous.” MVP also expressed concern that such criticism could damage their long-term partnership with Netflix, which they hope to expand.

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP, remarked that the accusations of a fixed fight were a backhanded compliment to Paul, who has proven himself to be a serious fighter. He stated, “This event broke attendance and viewership records, showcasing Jake’s ability on the grand stage.” Bidarian believes the doubts will only motivate Paul to work harder.

Criticism of the Fight

Despite MVP’s stance, many criticized the Paul vs. Tyson fight as lackluster, claiming neither boxer displayed much intensity in the ring. Tyson was reportedly unsteady and exhausted in the later rounds, while Paul admitted he refrained from inflicting further harm. “I didn’t want to hurt someone who doesn’t need to be hurt,” Paul commented.
